A SUPER SIMPLE GUIDE

Once a fabric is printed, finished and installed, it has to live in the real world.
This is where care, durability and performance really matter.

Here’s the simple version.

Why Real-World Use Matters

A fabric might look beautiful on a sample, but how it performs day to day is what determines whether a project truly succeeds.

This depends on:

  • where the fabric is used
  • how often it’s touched or cleaned
  • exposure to sunlight
  • the base cloth and print method

Design doesn’t stop at installation.

Hospitality vs Domestic Use

This is one of the biggest distinctions to get right.

Hospitality fabrics need to cope with:

  • frequent use
  • regular cleaning
  • higher wear and tear
  • public environments

Domestic fabrics can be more delicate, but they still need realistic care expectations.

If a fabric is going into a hotel, bar or rental property, durability should always lead the decision-making.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Digitally printed fabrics are not all treated the same.

Some can be:

  • gently vacuumed
  • spot cleaned
  • professionally cleaned

Others may not tolerate:

  • harsh chemicals
  • aggressive scrubbing
  • frequent washing

Understanding this before you specify avoids disappointment later.

Light, Wear & Fading

Sunlight, friction and time all affect fabric performance.

Things to consider:

  • south-facing windows
  • seating areas with constant use
  • headboards and cushions that are regularly handled

Good fabric choices slow wear and fading.
Poor ones make it obvious very quickly.

Why This Matters

Designers are often asked:
“Will this last?”

The honest answer depends on the fabric, print method and finishing — not just the pattern.

Beautiful is important.
